St Newlyn East were made to work hard for the win by a dogged Lifton side who never stopped working but ultimately it was the current league leader's top scorer Ross London who proved to be the match winner.
It was a frustrating first half for Newlyn with 17 attempts on the Lifton goal but with the visiting goalkeeper only called into action on rare occasions due to lack of shots on target. Jay Manning and Jake Watson both stung the Lifton keeper's gloves from distance but apart from these opportunities he was not troubled.
However as the half drew to a close London burst into life and struck twice. The first on 41 minutes when Newlyn worked the ball down the left wing and the ball came inside for London to out muscle two defenders before turning and firing high into the net from close range.
He doubled Newlyn's lead on the stroke of half time when a deep out-swinging corner from Sonny Summers-Evans was met by Newlyn's marksman at the back post, sending a looping header onto the far corner of the net.
London completed his hat trick in the second half on the hour when he met a pin point cross from Manning to head into the top left and corner.
Lifton scored a consolation goal two minutes later - poor play saw a long ball evade Newlyn's defenders and a mix up allowed Rich to lob the onrushing Prentice into the net.
Overall Newlyn were deserved winners - their possession and chances created testament to this, but know their profligacy in front of goal is something they will need to address moving forward.
