Chris Sturgess and Jay Manning score as under strength Newlyn fall to late 94th Minute equaliser.

St Newlyn East travelled to Boscastle missing 8 of their regular squad but were determined t keep their recent good run of form and results going against opposition who have always done their best to rattle the Saints.

Newlyn started the game on the front foot, and it only took 2 minutes for Harry Mugford to sting the home side’s goalkeeper with a shot from distance that the goalkeeper held on to at the second attempt.

The Saints inform striker was targeted as a threat and following a foul on Newlyn’s top marksman on the edge of the penalty area Ash Bradshaw’s free kick was gathered with relative ease. A series of early corner kicks eventually led to Newlyn opening the scoring on 17 minutes when Mugford’s corner was won by the returning Dan Woodgate for Chris Sturgess to hit a sublime finish with the outside of his right boot that curled into the far corner past the stranded goalkeeper.

Woodgate’s break down the left wing on 30 minutes allowed him to pass inside to Jake Watson but his shot from just inside the penalty area flew wide.

Just before half time a long cross from Jay Manning saw Ross London challenge with the goalkeeper only for his header to crash back off the cross bar. London reacted quickest, and as the ball fell to him again, he smashed a shot goalward only for it to cannon away to safety off a goalpost.

Five minutes after the interval the home side drew level when a hopeful long clearance was won and the header fell to Blanchard who found the net beyond Prentice who had come off his line to narrow the angle.

Newlyn were then able to bring on Owen London on 60 minutes for Woodgate. The younger London brother returning to action after missing a month to injury. He immediately showed he had lost none of his attacking threat by cutting inside past two defenders but flashed his shot high over the crossbar. Mugford was the next Newlyn payer to sting the gloves of the Boscastle goalkeeper before Ross London and Owen London again went close wit efforts that were easily saved.

Newlyn restored their deserved lead on 83 minutes – a long pass over the full-back’s head from Max Smith saw indecisiveness in the home defence that Manning took full advantage of by outpacing the defenders to colly chip the goalkeeper from a tight angle into an empty net.

Owen London again saw his shot well saved from a pass from Woodgate with 5 minutes left who had replaced the injured Mugford. As time slowly ticked down to the final whistle Newlyn seemed to be heading towards another win but in the 94th minute another long, hopeful clearance was clipped back into the area where Insley found himself unmarked and headed home to equalise for a relived home side and a devastated Newlyn who had worked so hard to secure all of the points with their weakened side.
